Developing Skills and Basic Defense

Day 2 of 3
  • Warm-Up

    • Begin with a warm-up routine similar to the first class.

  • Dribbling Progression

    • Build on dribbling fundamentals with the "Dribble Relays":

    • Dribbling while changing speed.

    • Dribbling while looking up to see the court.

    • Incorporate dribbling drills with cones and obstacles.

​

  • Passing Skills

    • Reinforce chest passes, bounce passes, and overhead passes.

    • Practice passing under defensive pressure with the "Passing Under Pressure Drill."

​

  • Basic Defensive Skills

    • Teach the defensive stance, defensive slide techniques, and close-out drills.

    • Have students practice guarding each other with one-on-one drills.

  • Shooting

    • Pump fake.

    • BGT Drill - Shot fake at elbow into a layup.

    • Spot Shooting.

​

  • Rebounding Fundamentals

    • Explain offensive and defensive rebounding positions.

    • Teach the importance of boxing out with the "Box Out Drill."

​

  • Cool Down

    • Finish with light stretching and deep breathing exercises.
